Library Love

I confess to an ongoing love affair with the San Francisco Public Library. The books! Oh the books. 

Endless creative, design, and craft reference complete with enough punny knitting titles to distract me from my "serious" research. (I mean really—The Joy of Sox, Tag You're Knit, Domiknitrix...) Countless cookbooks to satisfy my appetite regardless of the day's dietary musings—Meatless Monday self: Moosewood Cookbook, Meat-full Tuesday self: Ad Hoc at Home, Carb-loading Wednesday: Tartine Breads... All the latest best sellers friends are touting as must reads, currently The Happiness Project. All this to say the 3 SFPL branches within walking distance of home are among my favorite local haunts. 

The wildly talented Wendy MacNaughton illustrated The San Francisco Public Library In Its Own Words. Her drawings are beautifully matched with poignant words from "the people of the library". And while I'm sure I could have checked it out from my local branch, I recently purchased it for the Manwaring permanent collection.

Flourished Place

Nothing ups the classy quotient of a dinner party quite like an elegant place card. Not only a lovely addition to the table setting, place cards allow the host to curate a seating arrangement optimal for easy conversation and plentiful laughter.

...and guests will thank you for eliminating the awkward pre-dinner seat scramble. Win win!

A Very Specific Recipe

With no exciting produce in the kitchen to act as my muse, I went to the market and selected one sugar snap pea, a button mushroom, a crimini mushroom, a handful of cherry tomatoes, and a baby yukon potato. The check out man held up my lone snap pea and asked, "Is this yours?" to which I was tempted to reply "Yup, I'm on a diet," but replied with restraint, "Yes, just painting some produce." The elderly lady behind me chuckled audibly and said "My my, I thought you were just cooking a very specific recipe!" Priceless. And so here are the ingredients for said very specific recipe.

I recently, and quite literally, ran into an old boss on a remote hiking trail. After exchanging surprised and excited hellos we caught up and shared a few life updates. Upon parting she said, "I am happy to know you are flourishing."
